US claims Russia wants to put 'wire' on Baltic Sea bed

According to the US, listening devices may be installed in the Nord Stream-2 pipeline.

The United States is ready to impose sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2. Washington claims that the project will strengthen Europe’s dependence on Russia and create security problems. In particular, according to the Americans, Russia may place acoustic surveillance devices (undersea surveillance equipment) along the pipeline route. These systems can, for example, be used to detect submarines.

Bloomberg reports that sanctions may be applied under the law “Countering America’s Adversaries”, which was adopted last August.

“Nord Stream-2” is a pipeline through which Russian gas will be transfered to Western Europe, not through Belarus and Ukraine, but along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The only shareholder of the project is the Russian state corporation Gazprom. The cost of building the gas pipeline is $ 9.5 billion.
