Unresolved issues: Presidents of Belarus, Russia to hold another meeting in December

The leaders of Belarus and Russia will see each other again before the end of 2018.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Vladimir Putin have arranged for holding one more meeting this year, Kremlin spokesman told news agency TASS in the wake of Tuesday’s talks.

“First of all, this is explained by the willingness of the Russian President to scrutinize certain issues and find the most appropriate solutions. The date of the meeting will be determined depending on the schedules of the heads of state,” the press service of Alyaksandr Lukashenka reports.

On December 25, Putin and Lukashenka discussed the issues of integration of the two countries, cooperation in the energy sector, amendments to the Russian tax legislation and their impact on the economy of Belarus for four hours. However, the negotiations seem to have come to a deadlock. They did not answer reporters’ questions or made any comments after the meeting.

According to Russia’s Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, the parties agreed to establish a working group of members on integration and other issues that remain unresolved. Settling the question of gas price for Belarus was deferred to 2020, he said.
