Unlike Russia: Belarus to show much talked-of The Death Of Stalin

The Belarusian Ministry of Culture has taken a close look at the black comedy The Death Of Stalin by director Armando Iannucci. According to the experts, the film keeps within the Belarusian law.

“There are no issues with it. The satirical film The Death Of Stalin has been authorized for distribution in the Republic of Belarus,”says Anastasiya Hurina, a representative of the Silver Screen cinema.

On February 8, the movie will start to be released by Silver Screen cinemas in Minsk. It will soon appear in the schedule.

Russia’s Culture Ministry revoked a film distribution certificate of the British satirical comedy. It was expected to premiere in Russia on January, 25.

Russian MPs and culture figures attended a private screening that took place some days ago. Many of them were in favour of banning the movie. Earlier, Russian filmmakers sent a joint letter to the Minister of Culture with a request to drop the British movie from screens. They called The Death Of Staling ‘libel’.

In Belarus the show was to have been premiered at two private cinemas, but after the scandal in Russia, the Ministry of Culture of Belarus suspended ticket pre-sale and promised to make certain of the film’s compliance with the law.
