Universities in Minsk have begun to adjust the syllabus and move the lectures online. In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, some universities cancel lectures, BelTA informs.
Academy of Management under the President was the first to switch to online lectures. Some other classes are also held remotely.
“We are making every effort for the quality of education to remain intact. Teachers are subject to increased demands on control. Students report on each element of the course,” said First Vice Rector Valery Baradzenya.
In addition, mass events, including some conferences, have been canceled in this university.
At BSU, the lectures are put off at all departments. At the same time, universities do not consider the introduction of distance learning.
A number of higher education institutions have restricted attendance of student hostels.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education intends to introduce a quarantine.
Previously, it was reported that some students of Minsk State Linguistic University start a strike on March 20, demanding the leadership of an educational institution to introduce quarantine due to the COVID-2019 pandemic.
On Monday, March 23, youth activists also intend to announce a general strike. They explain these measures by their unwillingness to “put themselves and their loved ones at risk because of the inflexibility of university administrations”.
Most European universities have already switched to distance learning because of the spread of the coronavirus. To date, unlike in the neighboring countries, the authorities have not introduced quarantine in Belarus. Educational institutions continue to operate in the normal mode.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, over 70 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in Belarus.
