Now in Minsk: Authorities sanction ‘Narodny Albom’ show with banned performers in the lead


The ideologists of the Minsk City Executive Committee issued permission to hold a concert themed on the popular project Narodny Albom on February 24, 2017.

As reported in September, guests of the Bialystok Opera house festival stood the chance to see their favorite characters of the “Narodny Albom” musical created in the 90s by Lyavon Volski and Mikhail Anempadystau. Belsat TV, which became one of the organisers of the 20th anniversary show, will televise the recorded performance on New Year’s eve. The stage was organized a a small-town tavern in the former Polish-Soviet frontier region. All the actors got into the characters of people who were here before the start of World War II.

The concert in Minsk is to be held in Prime Hall, producer Uladzimir Shablinski said on Facebook.

“Shabli agency got a license to stage a show of Narodny Albom in Prime Hall. I express my gratitude to the directors of the venue for making a rent contract; as well as to the General Directorate of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of Minsk City Executive Committee – for sanctioning the event,” he wrote.

Iconic Belarusian rock musicians Lyavon Volski and Zmitser Vaytsyushkevich who have long been banned from giving concerts in Belarus for their critical attitude towards Lukashenka’s regime star in the show.

On December 3, Lyavon Volski is to present Psychasamatyka (Psychosomatics), an album dedicated to ‘those who remain with and those who left us’, on the stage of Loftas Club in Vilnius. Anyone who would like to is welcome to watch the performance live on Belsat TV website.

The show ‘Narodny Albom. 20 years later’ directed by Konrad Smuga premiered within the Wschód Kultury. Inny Wymiar festival coordinated by Bialystok Cultural Center and  National Cultural Center with support of kulturadostepna.pl. Belsat TV is the executive producer and author of the idea. The festival is co-produced by Polish National Audio and Video Institute NInA.
