According to the voting results in the territory of Belarus, comedian Vladimir Zelenskiy received 41.2% of the vote, which is nearly a third more than Ukraine’s national average.
In total, 1,053 citizens of Ukraine cast their votes in Belarus.
Interestingly, Petro Poroshenko takes the lead at the majority of overseas polling stations: the incumbent president has been supported by 38.58% of Ukrainian voters vote abroad. Zelenskiy got 26.14% of votes; Anatoly Gritsenko has come third with 10.61%.
Zelenskiy had a victory only in 16 of 72 countries where Ukrainians voted, including Armenia, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Georgia and others. Notably, pro-Russian politician Yuri Boyko won in Estonia and Moldova.
As for the elections in Ukraine, the Central Election Commission has processed 70% of protocols by 12.00 (local time) on Monday. Calculations show that at least 30.46% of voters cast their vote in favour of Zelenskiy, 16.18% – of Poroshenko. The two candidates will square off in the second round on April, 21.
