The National Police of Ukraine has convinced the owners of cars with European registration to unblock the road at the checkpoint “Novye Yarilovichi”, and then opened a criminal case for blocking the road.

Due to the protest of Ukrainian motorists, a queue of cars, mostly trucks, had appeared at the Belarusian checkpoint “Novaya Huta”.

The Homiel traffic police recommended that drivers choose other check points when driving to Ukraine.

“After the police negotiated with the participants of the protest, the traffic through the partially blocked checkpoint “Novye Yarilovichi” was fully restored, ” said Chairman of the communications department at the head office of the national police of Ukraine in Chernihiv region.

The police of the Chernihiv region opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 279 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Blocking transport communications by creating obstacles”). Protesters face up to three years in prison.

The protest, connected with the new tariffs of customs registration of “Eurocars” — cheap cars from Europe, which Ukrainians brought to the country in the temporary import mode — started in Ukraine last week.

On November 19, the “Euromotorists” started the protests near the borders with Belarus and Poland.
