Ukraine to miss Junior Eurovision in Minsk

Ukraine will not be able to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest-2018 due to the critical underfunding of the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine (NOTU), UA: Suspilne reports.

As was noted, participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest entails significant expenses for the TV and Radio Company already at the qualifying stage, as well as a mandatory contribution to the European Broadcasting Union (organizer of the competition).

“This year, for the first time, the NOTU does not have the financial ability to cover the cost of producing selection rounds, pay a fee and make all the mandatory payments,” the report says.

The state budget of Ukraine for 2018 provides 776 million UAH (more than $ 29 million) for the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine, which will not be enough to cover the expenses until the end of the year.

International Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. will be held in Belarus on November 25. Ukraine has been participating in the competition since 2006, but for the first time in the history of the competition, it is forced to withdraw from participation.
