Ukraine’s SBU detains Russian spy in Odessa


Ukraine’s Security Service has detained a pro-Russian militant who arrived in Odessa on an assignment by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

The detainee was trained and instructed in a military training centre in Russia’s Rostov region in 2014. later, he fought against the Ukrainian army in Donbas.

While staying in Russia, the man was recruited by FSB officers. His supervisors tasked him to collect information about the situation in Odessa region, particularly, in areas bordering on the so-called Transnistria, as well as finding illegal ways of entry into Ukraine.

The militant was declared a suspect in committing a crime under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (establishing a terrorist group or organization).
