Ukraine’s Interior knows who ordered hit of journalist Sheremet – minister

The investigating team does hold information about the instigators of the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov told TV channel 1 + 1.

A day earlier, Ukraine’s police detained five persons they suspect of committing the murder: nurse Yana Dugar, doctor Yuliya Kuzmenko, musician and volunteer fighter Andrey Antonenko, volunteer fighters Vladislav and Inna Grishchenko. The major version is that the suspects were aiming at the destabilization of the situation in the country by way of killing a well-known person, Ukraine’s police chief Yevhen Koval said at Thursday’s briefing.

According to the minister, the case has not yet been solved and the probe is still underway.

At the same time, many important issues have not been commented on yet; in particular, the names of the instigators have never been given.

When asked about it, Avakov cited the ongoing investigation, but assured the journalists that the people who had been behind the assassination were being closely watched by the ministry.

“At the briefing, we revealed 5-7%, maybe 10% of the facts we have. I think that there will be even more news and information on the case,” he added.

Prominent Belarusian-born journalist Pavel Sheremet, who for the last five years had lived and worked in Ukraine, died on the morning of 20 July, 2016 in car explosion. The car he was driving belonged to Alena Prytula — the owner of Ukrainska Pravda. According to law enforcers, the explosive had the power of 400-600 grams of TNT. The National Police of Ukraine opened a criminal case under article ‘deliberate murder’.
