Ukraine’s intelligence special forces commander killed in car bombing


Maxim Shapoval, the commander of the special forces of Ukraine’s Chief Intelligence Directorate, has been blown up in his Mercedes in Kyiv today.

Colonel Shapoval, who was driving the car, is dead, Ukrainska Pravda reports with reference to the Defense Ministry.

The blast has been defined as a terrorist attack. The military prosecutor’s office will be investigating into the case.

At 8:16 the Kyiv police was informed of a Mercedes’ exploding at the crossroads of Solomyanska and Oleksiyivska streets.

“At the time of the explosion, the driver was in the cabin, the car’s parts scattered around the perimeter of 100 meters and affected other cars. The ambulance and rescuers of the Emergency Service are trying to free the driver. In the meantime, one person was killed. There are two casualties,” Interfax Ukraine reports.
