Ukraine’s police detained the suspects in the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said on Facebook.
He did not give the suspects’ name and their number. A measure of restriction is to be selected soon.
“This is the result of very complicated and hard work conducted by of real experts as well as an important step towards to fully clearing the case,” Avakov stressed.
(UPD) At least five persons got on the investigators’ radar: nurse Yana Dugar, doctor Yuliya Kuzmenko, musician and volunteer fighter Andrey Antonenko, volunteer fighters Vladislav and Inna Grishchenko. The investigation team’s major version is that the suspects were aiming at the destabilization of the situation in the country by way of killing a well-known person, Ukraine’s police chief Yevhen Koval said at Thursday’s briefing.
In November, Prosecutor General Ruslan Ryaboshapka said that the case would be solved in the near future. According to him, the investigation will end soon. In turn, Ukrainian media reported the detention of the Grishchenko family. Their case was handed over to the investigator who was probing into Sheremet’s murder.
Prominent Belarusian-born journalist Pavel Sheremet, who for the last five years had lived and worked in Ukraine, died on the morning of 20 July, 2016 in car explosion. The car he was driving belonged to Alena Prytula — the owner of Ukrainska Pravda. According to law enforcers, the explosive had the power of 400-600 grams of TNT. The National Police of Ukraine opened a criminal case under article ‘deliberate murder’.
