Ukraine has no plans to buy electricity from BelNPP

At the meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian group on cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, the issues of electricity import were discussed. According to forecast, Ukraine will import 2.1 billion kWh from Belarus in 2020. However, the Ukrainian side stresses that the import of energy from BelNPP is out of the question.

This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine.

“Electricity is a priority,” said Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel. “BelNPP is to launch in February and there may be an excess of electricity. Of course, it is necessary to take into account certain volumes of interstate overlap in the energy sector”.

The press release of the Ukrainian ministry particularly emphasizes that the import of electricity from BelNPP was not discussed during the meeting of the working group. Only the fact of excessive electricity production in the Belarusian market after the launch of BelNPP was highlighted. But “Ukraine does not intend to buy such excesses,” the Ministry notes.
