Ukraine: Explosions at ammo depot, evacuation in progress (video)

On Tuesday morning, a fire and explosions hit a defense ministry ammunition depot in the service area of Arsenal-6 near the town of Ichnia (Chernihiv region) which is 180 km off Kyiv. About 10,000 persons have been evacuated.

Sounds of explosions have been heard several kilometers away, residents of nearby villages and towns say. The intensity is 2-3 blasts per second, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reports.

By the moment, there have been no reports about any casualties. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has set up a command centre at the scene. The airspace in a 20 km radius has been closed, road and rail transport have been suspended, efforts to protect the state border have been stepped up. It is still unclear whether the explosions were accidentality or sabotage.

In September 2017, a military depot of the Ukrainian army burned down in Vinnytsia region. About 10,000 ammo wagons were stored there. The Ukrainian side put the blame on Russian subversives saying they had used a drone to set fire.
