Russian military helicopter destroyed in Syria (video)


A Russian helicopter that earlier crash-landed in Syria was burned down. A video of the incident was posted on the Internet.

The helicopter was shot at after it touched down near Syria’s Palmyra city on Thursday, but the crew returned safely to the Hmeimim air base, Russian news agencies quoted Russia’s defence ministry as saying. At that, Syrian sources claim that a Russian military helicopter had been destroyed by rocket fire in Homs province in central Syria.

The video shows two helicopters on an airfield. According to unconfirmed information, one of them made an emergency landing, its crew was evacuated to the other helicopter. A missile hit the first one. At least two combats vehicles were on the scene.

“The helicopter sustained damage which prevented it from returning to the home air base. The crew was not hurt and was swiftly returned to Hmeimin air base by a search-and-rescue helicopter,” Interfax news agency quoted a Russian defence ministry official in Syria. According to him, the helicopter was delivering humanitarian aid.
