American bombers have arrived in Portugal, the Voice of America reports.

Task Force of U.S. B-2 Spirit stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in the U.S. has arrived at the airbase Lajes in the Azores (Portugal) for exercises of integration in the theater of war and flight training.

The U.S. European Command Headquarters reported that the aircraft are used at various military facilities.

“Deployment of strategic bombers in Europe allows crew members to familiarize themselves with the theater and demonstrate the commitment of the U.S. to its allies and partners,” reads the statement.

At Lajes Air Force Base, the 65th Ground Support Group supports combat operations by providing expeditionary movement of fighter jets, other combat aircraft, as well as global communications with combat unit commanders. It also supports combined, coalition and NATO operations.
