The official was accused of having sex with a person under 16 years of age. The scandal erupted after it emerged that the 14-year-old local girl is HIV positive.
The 56-year-old man, who worked for two posts – chairman of the village council and the head of the executive committee of agriculture, was detained on November 21. A few days before that he voluntarily resigned from his post.
Currently, his duties are performed by his secretary. His colleagues say he was a good leader, and the locals are sure that he could not have seduced a minor. People are even prepared to “defend” the chairman, who previously worked as a mathematics teacher at a local school.
The official’s wife would not talk with the media, which cannot be said about the girl’s mother.
The woman works on a local farm as a milkmaid and is raising two children without a husband. She admits that the youngest daughter had been unruly since the age of 12.
It became known in the spring that the daughter was pregnant. The tests she took before the abortion showed that the girl was HIV-positive. It is still unknown who infected her. The mother says that the hospital informed the “authorities”, and then the daughter spoke about her relationship with the chairman.
The official is under arrest, investigation is underway.
