‘Terrorist threats’. Russia testing combat readiness in Central Asia

On June 24, a snap check of combat readiness kicked off in the Central Military District. It is another step in maintaining military security in Central Asia, the Russian top brass believe.

According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, surprise combat readiness tests are needed since serious terrorist threats remain in Central Asia

The check is to determine ‘the degree of troops’ readiness to participate in the forthcoming most important training event of this year – the strategic command staff exercise Center-2019,” state-run news agency TASS quotes him.

About 150,000 soldiers, including some units of the Southern and Eastern Military District, are taking part in the combat readiness test that will last until June 28. There will be over 50 exercises on 35 training ground.
