Sweden forcing out Russia's alleged agent who worked under diplomatic cover

Russian Ambassador to Sweden Victor Tatarintsev has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Swedish side demands a Russian diplomat who is suspected of collaboration with secret services leave the country at his own will, the newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports.

In late February, the 47-year-old Russian citizen, who is reported to be an intelligence officer working under diplomatic cover, was detained in Stockholm during his meeting with an employee of a Swedish IT company. The police asked him to leave the territory of the country, but he did not do so.

The arrested Swedish IT worker is suspected of spying for the Kremlin. According to the police, he provided the Russian intelligence with information on various subjects in 2017.

In 2015, tSwedish intel analysts claimed that about a third of diplomats working at the Russian Embassy in Stockholm were engaged in espionage activities.
