Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya to stay in election campaign despite threats

She has taken the collected signatures to the administration of Savetsky district of Homiel.

Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya decided to continue her participation in the election campaign despite the threats. Recently she received a call from a Ukrainian number. A person told the woman that if she continued her journey, she could be put in jail and her children taken away.

However, later she decided to continue participation in the election campaign and handed over the collected signatures to the administration of the Savetsky district of Homiel.

“It’s the only way I can help my husband,” she said.

Svyatlana said in a comment to Belsat that she was not sure that she would have time to hand in all the signatures. Some coordinators of her initiative group are now in detention, so there are many places she has to hand in the signatures herself.

“According to our estimates, we have to get it done in three days, until Friday June 19,” says Svyatlana.

In the evening of June 15, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya announced that she had collected 100 thousand signatures necessary to be nominated candidate for presidency.

Candidates must submit all signatures by June 19, this year’s presidential election will be held on August 9.
