Sugar for separatists: Belarus trading with Donetsk and Luhansk

Information about these exports is not available on official websites of enterprises, state officials are also silent about the successful businesses. JSC Gorodeya Sugar Refinery, part of the State Food Industry Concern, exports sugar to Donetsk and Luhansk.

It became known, when the “Belarusian Partisan” portal published photos of the packaged goods intended for “PRD and PRL”.

The Luhansk cold storage facility and ‘Donprodrezerv’ buy sugar produced in the Gorodeya Sugar Refinery, but the official website of the latter has no information about this, no companies from Donbas are listed among the Belarusian enterprise partners.

We contacted the deputy director for commercial activities of the JSC Gorodeya Sugar Refinery Andrei Batskel:

“First, how do I know whom I am speaking with? Second, I cannot provide you with this information. We do not sell to Donetsk and Luhansk. We have partners in Ukraine, we also send goods to Russia…” he said.

Meanwhile, representative of “Donprodrezerv”, who did not want to give his name, confirmed that there was cooperation with Gorodeya Sugar Refinery.

We called the number listed in the details on the packaging. The person responsible for liaising with Belarusian partners also confirmed that they were trading with the Gorodeya Refinery, but declined to disclose specific figures.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka said that there were both no trade relations and negotiations with regard to the import of coal at the state level between Belarus and the PRD and PRL. However, one of the PRL officials Viktor Tkachenko told belsat.eu: such negotiations are underway, and meanwhile their minerals are bought by small private Belarusian companies.
