Still united: Monument to Belarusian diaspora erected in Minsk

A bronze image in honour of the Belarusian diaspora has recently been installed in Trinity Suburb in Minsk.

The sculptural composition is made in the shape of a wheel, an ancient Slavic symbol which represents the Sun, the circle of life and eternity. The image aims to show that the Belarusians remain one nation and love their Motherland.

Belarus’ Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey took part in the opening ceremony. Last year, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka instructed him to ‘make friends’ with Belarusians living abroad. Lukashenka wants them to contribute to the strengthening of Belarus’ trade and economic ties with other countries as well as to the preservation of the country’s sovereignty and independence.
