Soviet plane illegally placed in downtown Warsaw

A white Ilyushin IL-14 plane appeared not far from Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science on Wednesday.

The plane is a ‘replica’, Śródmieście district administration told the Polish TV station TVN24. They had no bearing on his placing in the very heart of the city.

“This is a private site,” they said.

The owner of the plot received it in 2008 as part of the return of nationalized property to the heirs of former landlords. According to the journalists, he is unaware of the situation. But his business partner, who is the administrator of the territory, says a Vietnamese snack bar will soon open in the plane.

The future owner of the bar is fond of airplanes, the Metro newspaper reports.

According to the city authorities, the plane does not fit in the urban area scheme. A construction supervision commission has already drew up a protocol.
