Top IT company senior staff arrested in Minsk

The Investigative Committee arrested senior executives of IBA Group, one of the three biggest IT companies in the country. Tax evasion is reported to have become the reason for their arrest.

It is Syarhei Lyautseyeu, IBA Group Board Chairman and IBA Minsk CEO, and Syarhei Akulich, a member of the Board, First Deputy Chairman of IBA Group, Director of Software Development, CEO of IBA IT Park who have come to the attention of authorities, news portal tut.by reports.

According to a source, Akulich was arrested a week ago. As far as Lyautseyeu is concerned, by now there has been only contradictory information which does not allow to prove his being in custody.

“Syarhei Ivanavich [Akulich] is on sick leave. Syarhei Vadzimavich [Lyavtseev] is now on vacation. But from time to time he he comes to the office. Not long ago he played tennis,” IBA Group’s press service says.

Akulich’s mobile phone is not available. Lyautseyeu did not pick up the phone. The State Security Committee (KGB) declined comment to journalists.

In early August, several senior executives of JSC Belarusbank, including its executive director Anatol Bahavik, were detained over bribery. As IBA has been long providing support services and repairing Belarusbank’s banking system, the two high-profile cases are rumoured to be connected.
