Serbia remembers Putin’s help, sanctions ruled out - president

As Serbia appreciates its friendship with Russia, it will not impose any sanctions on the Kremlin.

In the interview with the German newspaper Rheinische Post, Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić said that he was very much obliged for the assistance provided by the Russian president Vladimir Putin. According to him, they are on friendly terms.

“I know him very well and hold him in high respect. He is a very clever man. And I know that Serbia can count on him. Three times I was in sore need of help, and three times I immediately got in touch with him on the phone,” Vučić said.

He failed to specify what assistance was the case.

At the same time, the Serbian leader stressed that he had similar experience when dealing with the same can be said of German Chancellor Angela Merkel:

“I am still very grateful to her for her picking up the phone in 2015 and putting an end to Croatia’s border blockade of Serbia. We, the Serbs will never forget it! Just as we do not forget about our friendship with Russianz. That is why I have always said that we will never accept the EU sanctions against Russia,” he explained.
