September 1939: What Soviet propagandists boasted of (ENG news film)


The autumn of 1939 was the start of a fateful time in the history of Europe and the whole world. However, Comrade Stalin and Soviet citizens were unaware of it at that time.

In September 1939, the Soviet Union attacked Poland that had already been torn by repelling Nazis’ aggression. Following the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the USSR occupied the lands of Western Belarus and Ukraine. The operation was called the ‘protection of the Belarusian and Ukrainian people’.

Soyuzkinozhurnal appeared on the screens of the country’s cinemas in 1925. Newsreels served as news bulletins: there was no television in the USSR. In the wartime, Soyuzkinozhurnal issues were mainly made as presented military news films.
