Second day of protesting: Interior Ministry confirms death case

On Monday evening, the Belarusian Interior Ministry has reported the death of a man who was participating in post-election protests in the capital city.

“Today, August 10, around 11 p.m., during the riots in Minsk at Pritytski Street, the crowd was building barricades to block the passage. During the confrontation with special forces, arriving to unblock the square, one of the protesters tried to throw an unidentified explosive device towards law enforcement officers. It exploded in his hand, and the man suffered fatal injuries,” the statement reads.

An investigation team is currently working on the scene and all the circumstances of the incident are being determined, press secretary Volha Chamadanava added.

However, there are numerous reports of the riot police’s using flashbang grenades against protesters; many suggest the man might have died due to their fault.
