Savchenko's lawyer: good news coming soon

Lawyer of the Ukrainian pilot sentenced to 22 years in Russian prison spoke to TV channel “Inter”.

“There is information that I have no right to disclose, but its essence is that the good news may come in the next few days. We hope that this will be sooner rather than later,” Ilya Novikov said in the program “Black Mirror”.

The lawyer also said that according to his information, Savchenko will not be transfered to jail.

“There are, in fact, negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, and they are moving in the right direction, albeit more slowly than we would like. Next week, we expect some big news. I think that everyone understands, in Russia in particular, that an attempt to transfer Nadiya in the current situation and in her current condition will mean an attempt to disrupt such negotiations. I think nobody wants it,” said Novikov.

Novikov said that Savchenko had been on a hunger strike for the third day. According to the lawyer, “head of the colony warned her that he would soon start to force-feed her.”

On March 22, 2016, Donetsk Court of Rostov region found Nadiya Savchenko guilty of murdering Russian journalists Igor Korneliuk and Anton Voloshin and sentenced her to 22 years in a penal colony.
