The first unit of the Belarusian NPP has carried out complex tests. The technological safety systems were tested as part of the “reactor unit hot run-in,” the Energy Ministry reports.

In addition to checking the safety systems, the first unit of the NPP in Astravets conducted a comprehensive test of the power supply system of its own needs.

In general, during the complex tests we checked the automatic start of four diesel generator sets of emergency power supply system and one diesel generator set of normal power supply system. The performance of the emergency system mechanisms of all four safety channels was also tested.

The commissioning of the first power unit of BelNPP is scheduled for 2020, the second one will be launched in 2021.

The Belarusian NPP is being built under the Russian project near Astravets. This has caused criticism from the leadership of the Baltic States with Lithuania being the main critic. The Lithuanian authorities insist that the facility is being built with violations of safety requirements. Minsk refutes these accusations.
