Russian State Duma comments on introduction of single currency

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Viktor Vodolatskiy told RIA Novosti that the introduction of single currency of the Union State of Belarus and Russia should not be expected before 2030.

“Given the way the so-called road maps are being signed — more than 80% have already been signed, even 90% have already been signed, while there are still some subject to discussion. I think that we may not have single currency until 2030. Signing is going very slowly,” Vodolatskiy said.

At the end of 2019, representatives of the governments of Belarus and Russia declared that 30 road maps had already been coordinated. Consideration of the 31st map, which deals with the creation of supranational bodies and introduction of the single currency, has been postponed for an indefinite period. It is assumed that Minsk and Moscow will move to the consideration of the 31st map after the remaining 30 maps — that is, not before 2023.
