Russian spy in govt? Ukraine’s Security Service detains PM aide


Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) detained an employee of the government on suspicion of his being a Russian agent.

The detainee is Stanislav Yezhov, an aide of Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Vadym Denysenko, the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, told 112 Ukraine TV station.

“Information on this person’s allegedly being involved in illegal activities has been known for a long time; his work has recently been under surveillance,” Denysenko said.

According to news agency Ukrinform, Yezhov accompanied Groysman at all international meetings and on all trips. It was also reported that he had previously worked at the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, as well as at the Presidential Administration of Ukraine.

Earlier, the SBU reported the exposure of a Russian spy working in the secretariat of the Ukrainian government, but his name was not mentioned. According to investigators, he was recruited by Russian security services during a foreign trip.

According to the SBU. the official used special equipment to collect information about the activities of government agencies. The data obtained were passed to Russian curators via electronic communication channels.
