Russian soldiers, vehicles set off for Minsk to participate in Independence Day parade


The Guards Tank Army’s guided missile brigade of Russia’s Western Military District started out for Belarus, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

The troops and military vehicles which are expected to take part in the Independence Day parade in Minsk were going by rail.

According to the MoD, more than 300 soldiers of Kantemir division and Sevastopol motorized rifle brigade will march along the streets of Minsk on July, 3.

In addition, Russian aircraft – Mi-8 and Ka-52 helicopters, Su-30 fighters and Su-34.fighter-bombers will show up at the Belarusian parade.

About 4,000 military will be involved in the Independence Day military parade on July, 3 in Minsk, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said earlier. Unlike in previous years, the event will be held in the evening: it is expected to start at 21.00.

The official Independence day is celebrated on July 3, on the day of liberation of the Belarusian capital from German invaders. Such decision was taken by the republican referendum held in1996. Earlier the Independence day had been commemorated on July 27, its celebration being coincided with the day of passing the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1990.
