On July 28, Alexei Navalny, who was serving his term in the detention centre, was taken to hospital due to a ‘severe allergic reaction’. Now he is being kept in an observation ward of the therapeutic department under the watchful eye of the police.
According to his spokesperson Kira Yarmysh, Navalny had a swollen, reddened and rash-covered face. She also claimed that any allergies had never ailed him before. On Sunday afternoon, the oppositionist told Belsat TV journalist Maria Lekukh that he got better. In the evening, Ms Yarmysh reported that his condition was satisfying.
“We cannot rule out that it is toxic damage to the skin and mucous membranes which was caused by an unknown chemical substance and is the result of the action of a third person,” doctor Anastasia Vasilyeva, who earlier treated Navalny, said on Facebook.
“As a doctor, who treated Alexei’s eye for a severe burn two years ago, I can safely say that the two cases – that of 2017 and the current one – come out as the effect of uncertain chemicals. Alexei has never been allergic to anything; moreover – he ate the same food as all other prisoners, he did not start to use new perfumes or personal care products,” the doctor said.
In her opinion, the oppositionist had not been properly examined. Vasilyeva urged the doctors at Moscow hospital Nr 64, where Navalny was staying, to examine samples of his skin and hair for the presence of toxic substances.
After the alleged poisoning, the politician was admitted to the hospital which is headed by the chief doctor of the pro-Putin United Russia party so that she could control every step and the treatment of Navalny, Vasilyeva believes. As someone wants to conceal all traces of the poisoning, personal physicians were not allowed to examine him, she added.
The policemen were really trying to bar the doctors from seeing him in hospital, Navalny’s lawyer Olga Mikhailova said.
Last Wednesday, the riot police arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny over his call on Muscovites to take part in the unauthorised rally on July, 27. The politician will have to spend 30 days in jail.
