Russian MP wants to bomb forest fires in Siberia

Yevgeniya Borovikova, a deputy of the Altai Legislative Assembly, has proposed to solve the problem of forest fires in Siberia by means of bombardment.

“In Sweden, a forest fire was put out by dropping a bomb on it. During the bomb explosion oxygen is actively absorbed, suppressing the sources of combustion. In China, a burning forest is also fired on by special projectiles. After hitting the ground, the charge sprays a mixture that instantly extinguishes the flames over an area of 1,000 square meters. And such bombs with special means, which put out the fire, were developed in the Soviet Union! Do authorities really have no money such actions? But we do have money to sponsor military operations in other countries while we are dying?” the party’s press service quotes an MP from LDPR party.

Siberian fires are visible even from space. The area of the burning forests is comparable to that of Belgium or Crimea.

The residents of Siberia demand that the authorities introduce a state of emergency and start extinguishing 3 million hectares of burning forests. More than 400,000 people have already signed the petition on change.org.

More than 90% of the fire area is covered by so-called control zones – remote forest areas where the law does not allow extinguishing fires but only monitoring them.
