Russian natural gas for Belarus becomes cheaper this year


According to the data from the meeting of the heads of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Alyaksandr Lukashenka, last year, Russian gas supplies to Belarus increased by 7% up to 20.33 billion cubic meters compared to 19 billion cubic meters in 2017.

“Russia is the main supplier of oil and gas to Belarus. In 2017, Russia supplied Belarus with 18 million tons of oil and 19 billion cubic meters of natural gas, in 2018 — 20.33 billion cubic meters of gas and 18 million tons of oil,” says the data in the materials accessed by TASS.

In 2018-2019, Belarus is buying natural gas in Russia at a discount. The price of the Russian gas for our country in 2018 was $ 129 per 1,000 cubic meters, and this year it will drop to $ 127.

On February 13, at the talks in Sochi, the leaders of the two countries discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and prospects for the development of integration processes in the Eurasian space. At the talks the politicians touched on the pricing of Russian gas and the problem of Belarus’s shortfall in income as a result of the Russian tax maneuver in the oil industry.

As the press secretary to the president of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, reported, that the leaders of the countries had held negotiations mostly in a one-on-one format.
