Russian authorities calm about monetary union with Belarus and Kazakhstan


Monetary union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union is not there yet. This was announced on March 30 by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov.

According to him, it is first of all to be carefully considered the expert level, and the rush is not worth it, telegraf.by reports.

“On monetary union, we will calculate the pros and cons and engage in a dialogue and report to senior management, if there is any real change. It is currently a job for experts. We should not make mistakes and rush,” Interfax quoted Igor Shuvalov.

The deputy head of the Russian government said that after weighing all the pros and cons, the analysis of other monetary unions, including the EU, they will assess the readiness of the EAEC to move to the monetary union. If this is prevented by high rates of inflation, instability of the national currency, there is an option of coordinating the activities of the National Banks at the three countries in the framework of the EAEC.

The question of monetary union has not yet been agreed on in Belarus and Kazakhstan, and it will be discussed at the summit of the EAEC on 8 May.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has already announced its readiness to discuss the monetary union in the EAEC.
