Russian ambassador urges faster cooperation on joint projects

The integration projects of Belarus and Russia have a future, but they should be accelerated, said Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov on February 7.

“Work on integration projects is slow, and it needs acceleration,” Surikov admitted.

He noted that “not everything worked out” in the MAZ-KamAZ project, and now there is preparatory work going on for cooperation between Belarusian MAZ and Russian GAZ and Yaroslavl Motor Plant, as well as Likino Bus Plant.

According to the diplomat, there are also joint projects with “Grodno Azot”, projects in the military industry. In addition, Surikov noted the importance of cooperation between MTZ and Russian manufacturers.

“We need to master the production of competitive products for the markets of third countries. Although we have not decided on the list, there is progress,” the Russian ambassador said.

In May last year, Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka reported that the governments of Belarus and Russia should prepare proposals for the three integration projects by the end of the year. Syamashka said that among the Belarusian participants of the projects there will be enterprises of petrochemistry and machine building industry.

As for the form of interaction, “this can be an exchange of assets, purchase of shares, additional issue of shares and others.”
