Russia slaps sanctions on Ukraine


On November 1, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree introducing special economic measures against 322 Ukrainian citizens and 68 companies.

“Special economic measures are introduced in relation to individuals and legal entities of Ukraine, which include freezing non-cash funds, non-documentary securities and property in Russia and banning transfer of funds (withdrawal of capital) outside Russia. Sanctions will be extended to 322 individuals and 68 legal entities,” news agency TASS reports with reference to the press service of the Russian government.

The list includes judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 8th convocation, major Ukrainian businessmen, officials of the presidential administration of Ukraine, heads of executive authorities and large Ukrainian companies, and legal entities controlled by Ukraine’s top businessmen.

Russian president Vladimir Putin imposed sanctions on Ukraine by signing on October 22 a decree introducing ‘special economic measures’ against Kyiv.

Ukraine started blacklisting Russian legal entities and individuals some years ago. The Ukrainian sanctions list currently includes more than 1,700 people and over 700 companies. The country impose sanctions on persons and companies linked to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as those spotted in other violations of Ukrainian legislation. The sanctions list is regularly updated.
