Russia says Tsikhanouskaya's invitation to EU ministers' breakfast interferes with Belarus' affairs

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called the invitation of the ex-presidential candidate Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya to the informal breakfast of the EU foreign ministers as interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, TASS reports.

“The flirting of the EU foreign ministers with the self-appointed representative of the Belarusian opposition and inviting her to Brussels“ for communication ”is an integral part of the scenario of interference in the internal affairs of Belarus. This is a direct violation of the fundamental norms of the UN Charter and the principles of the Helsinki Final Act of the CSCE, the anniversaries of which the international community is celebrating this year, ”TASS quotes Zakharova.

According to her, Russia will consider such a contact as “evidence of the EU’s departure from earlier statements about the absence of geopolitics in the situation with Belarus and any parallels with the February 2014 scenario in Ukraine.”

Zakharova, in addition, noted that this course ща фсешщт is also confirmed by the statements of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell about the non-recognition of Alyaksandr Lukashenka as the elected President of Belarus, as well as the resolution of the European Parliament, in which European politicians did not recognize the results of the presidential elections, condemned security officials for violent actions against demonstrators and persecution of the opposition, and also supported the peaceful transfer of power with the help of the Coordination Council.

Earlier, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya was invited to take part in an informal breakfast of the foreign ministers of the EU countries, which will be held on September 21. At the same time, as stressed by the EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy Josep Borrell, Tsikhanouskaya will not participate in the official meeting of the foreign ministers, which will be held later.
