Russia: Bomb threats paralysing Eastern Siberia

On January 24-25, law enforcement officers evacuated people from office buildings, hospitals and schools in six Russian cities over bomb threat reports.

In Ulan-Ude, the city mayor’s office, the government and parliament of Buryatia, as well as a local school and hospital were evacuated.

In Chita, staff members of the town hall and the district administration had to leave their working places. In Yakutia, about 30 buidings of municipal government, education and health facilities were ‘mined’.

Blagoveshchensk

In Blagoveshchensk, schools, universities, shopping centers were targeted; in Irkutsk region – 23 facilities, including schools and hospitals.

According to Russian state-run news agency TASS, unknown individuals reported bomb threats via email. There were some phone reports as well local media say. All of them turn out to be false.

This week’s numerous bomb alerts also resulted in carrying out evacuations in Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Magnitogorsk and Kamchatka. The facts of mining have not been confirmed.
