One person has been killed in a fire in a children’s shopping mall in Moscow on Wednesday.
Emergency services received reports about the blaze in the four-storeyed building of the Perseus For Kids mall at 12:32 Moscow time.
“The victim evacuated from the burning facility has died in the ambulance. Efforts to save him failed,” the ambulance service told TASS.
The dead was an employee of the mall.
20 people were rescued by firefighters, about 600 were evacuated from the burning building. The blaze that scorched 80 square meters has been extinguished. Three firefighters have been injured in the fire, Ilya Denisov, head of the Main Directorate for Moscow at the Emergencies Ministry, said.
As reported earlier, on March 25 the fire at the shopping mall in Russia’s Kemerovo erupted on the top floor of the four-storey building engulfing an area of some 1,500 square meters.
As fire alarm failed, the shopping centre staff had to notify visitors about the incident themselves. As a result, many people who were cut off from the way outs had to jump out of the windows. Closed fire escapes and panic escalated the situation.
According to official data, 64 persons died.
