Rocket school in Hrodna launches Santa Claus up in air

They also launched a rooster and a snowman.

The Hrodna Space Modeling Laboratory has been hosting the only such event in Belarus for ten years already. The laboratory students launch homemade rockets in the shape of holiday symbols into the sky.

“This year, in addition to the snowman, Santa Claus and the Christmas tree, we made a symbol of the past year — a rooster – from which a plush dog will fly out after launch. This rocket is difficult to do, because it does not have a very traditional look, and does not always fly well, but after trials and mistakes, the children get it. I think it’s interesting for both children and spectators, because there is no such thing in Belarus,” said Alyaksandr Lipai, head of the rocket and space modeling laboratory.

At the “Neman” stadium, modelers put an improvised cosmodrome, from which children launched their rockets. Such a missile can be made directly from paper, but the main thing is to make an engine.

The School of Space Modeling in Hrodna has existed for 25 years, and the Hrodna modelers are known outside Belarus. More than once, students of the school have won international competitions. Currently, there are 15 people in the group of ages 10 to 22 years old.
