The information was posted on the website of the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan.
“The presence of the previous name in the documents does not make them invalid,” explains the ministry.
Astana was renamed Nur-Sultan after the resignation of the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The suggestion to name the capital in honor of the former president was made by the new head of state, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev.
On March 22 and 23, protests against the renaming of the Kazakh capital were held in Astana.
