Nice birthday gift: Kadyrov’s sons winners in child-fighting in Chechnya

The fighting tournament Grand Prix Akhmat 2016 was held in Grozny in the run-up of the 40th anniversary of Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov. Notably, child-fighting was part of the tournament.

It was Kadyrov’s sons – 10-year-old Ahmad, 9-year-old Eli and 8-year-old Adam – who won all the three fights. The proud father posted the videos on Instagram.

Despite the fact that child-fighting was presented as ‘exhibition performance’, Fyodor Yemelyanenko, the president of Russia’s Mixed Martial Arts Association harshly criticized the event and called it a violation of all the rules of mixed martial arts.

“According to the official rules of the sport, athletes under the age of 21 must enter the ring wearing a helmet, linings, those under 12 – wearing a rash guard or T-shirt as well. The fights were held in accordance with the rules developed for adult professional athletes, they are not appropriate for children. Children under 12 years are not allowed to fight at all, the rules read. What happened yesterday at the tournament in Grozny is unacceptable, and what is more, one cannot justify this,” Yemelyanenko said.

At the recent election of Chechnya’s head, 97.94% of voters cast their ballots for Kadyrov.
