On August 30, the Russian head of state congratulated his Belarusian colleague on his 65th birthday. Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s birthday is officially on August 31.

“You have been at the head of Belarus for a quarter of a century, working tirelessly to strengthen the international prestige of the country and address its socio-economic challenges,” said Putin in a message quoted by the press service of the Kremlin.

The text emphasizes that Lukashenka is making a great contribution to the development of relations with Russia. Putin also expressed confidence in the need to increase the Russian-Belarusian interaction.

The President of the Russian Federation also congratulated Lukashenka during the telephone conversation.

The Administration of the President of Belarus informed that the parties discussed the current agenda and the development of bilateral relations, including the work on the implementation of previous agreements. They also exchanged views on international issues.

Before 2009, Alyaksandr Lukashenka celebrated his birthday on August 30. He then decided that it would be more appropriate for him to celebrate his birthday on August 31 — on the same day with his youngest son, Mikalai.
