Putin gives military units names of Belarusian cities

The regiments and divisions of the Russian army received the names of Vitsebsk, Kobryn, Slonim, as well as Ukrainian and Polish cities.

The order about assignment of honorary names was signed by Putin. The documents were published on the official portal of legal information.

At present, a number of units of the Russian army have the names of the following Belarusian cities: Vitsebsk (the 90th Guards Tank Vitsebsk-Novgorod Division), Kobryn (856th Guards Self-propelled Artillery Kobryn Regiment), Slonim (the 102nd Motorized Rifle Slonim-Pomeranian Regiment).

The documents note that the honorific names are given “in order to preserve the glorious military historical traditions, educate servicemen in the spirit of devotion to the Fatherland and fidelity to military duty”.
