‘Russian World’ vocal supporters reportedly fined for holding picket in downtown Minsk (UPD)

Six persons who were behind a pro-Russian rally in Independence Square in Minsk will have to pay fines.

BYN 690 fine (appr. $360) has been imposed on each picketer, Alyaksandr Lastouski, Spokesman for the Minsk police, told the newspaper Nasha Niva.

The organizers of the unauthorized event called it a ‘mass action’. They expressed their support of Putin’s policy, called the European Union ‘freaks’ and warned that those who ‘were organizing Maidan’, would be sent into exile to Russia’s Magadan.

Due to the fact that the pro-Kremlin activists posted a video of the rally on the Internet, Belarusian law enforcement identified them. ‘Belarusians and Russians are one nation!’ was among the slogans they voiced on February, 4.

(UPD) One of the participants, former paratrooper Syarhei Lanavenka refuted the report about fines. He was contacted by a police officer of the Moscow police department, but there was no trial, he told svaboda.org. According to Lanavenka, he learned about fines from the Internet.

Pro-Russian activists are going to organise another rally in Minsk, as Belarus ‘should work together with Russia and Donbas’, he added. Lanavenka promised to get Belarusian authorities’ permission for holding the event.
