Protests against ‘Steinmeier formula’ during Belarus-Ukraine Forum of Regions

A protest rally has been staged on Friday in the Ukrainian town of Zhytomyr, where the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine is taking place on October 3-4.

Today presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Alyaksandr Lukashenka are holding a meeting as part of the forum.

The protesters who are slamming the Ukrainian authorities for agreeing to the so-called Steinmeier formula gathered in Lech Kaczyński Street, lit flares and chanted ‘No To Capitulation’, local media report.

The police arrived at the scene; they took the flares from the participants. There have been no reports about any casualties or detainees.

The Steinmeier formula provides for holding elections in the occupied territories under Ukrainian legislation and the supervision of OSCE. If the organization considers these elections free and fair, then the special status will be granted to the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk republics. The country is divided over the decision of Zelensky’s administration; many call it ‘capitulation’.
