Protester against 'parasite tax' suspected of spreading porn

A member of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party “Narodnaya Hramada” organizing committee Stanislau Paulinkovich has been detained by police in Mahiliou, svaboda.org reports.

According to Stanislau, a criminal case was not opened against him, but he remains a suspect. His computer with the monitor were seized, and the police tried to question him in the station. The activist denies the charges against him.

“I refused to give testimony, signed a relevant paper. I told them that I was not the person who would distribute pornography. I was never shown the movie, only a screenshot. I was told that the movie was posted on the internet 6 years ago, but they received the evidence only on February 17,” Stanislau told journalist, once he came from the police office.

According to the activist, on February 17, he was in Minsk protesting against the decree on parasites.

“Two weeks ago I received a call from a policeman, who was trying to invite me to talk about the repost of the “call for participation in an unsanctioned event”. I said I wanted to receive a subpoena. There was none. Suddenly, the police wanted to charge me with spreading pornography, trying to put this on me. The police argued that they were not interested in politics,” said Stanislau Paulinkovich.

An administrative case was launched against Paulinkovich in 2016 for reposting Mikalai Statkevich’s for the “We Demand Real Elections” rally in Minsk on September 12th. The case never reached the court.

Based on the decree #3, the activist was labeled a “parasite” and ordered to pay a fee of BYN 360 rubles. Stanislau said he would not do that. On his pages in social networks he put up ads of the protests against the decree in question.
