Prisoner swap between separatists, Ukraine may be held according to ‘306 for 74’ formula

Seeking the release of 74 prisoners, Ukraine has announced its intention to deliver 306 persons to the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk republics.

“We are ready to deliver 306 citizens (as many as the law of Ukraine permits) to release 74 Ukrainians from captivity in occupied territories,” First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko said on Facebook.

According to her, some ‘verification issues’ emerged, but the Ukrainian side as part of the Minsk humanitarian group managed to solve the best part of them.

On December 25, a meeting between Patriarch of Moscow and Russia Kirill and the leaders of pro-Russian warlords Alexander Zakharchenko and Leonid Pasechnik took place in Moscow. After the meeting, Kirill said the exchange of prisoners would be held on December 27.

“Today, the process of coordinating all the details regarding the exchange of prisoners between “DPR”, “LPR” and Ukraine has come to a completion in the St. Daniel’s Monastery,” news agency UNIAN quotes him.

Last week the Trilateral Contact Group on the conflict regulation in Donbas agreed on a ‘holiday’ ceasefire. The agreement came into effect on December, 23.
